Original painting by the artist Shirley Maimon.
I stood in front of the canvas, and two figures took shape in my mind—both a part of me, yet different from each other. As if each one reflected a different side of who I am.
The first figure was filled with passion and bursting energy. In contrast, the second figure was softer, more delicate.
They seemed to stand face to face, as if looking at their reflection in a mirror. Wings made of light and color spread in every direction, evoking a sense of freedom that embraced them both. Around them, birds soared freely—symbols of dreams and ideas, waiting to take flight.
Between the birds and the wings, colors blended seamlessly—the lines that blurred the boundaries between the two figures created an inseparable harmony. Each figure took something from the other, like a reflection that reveals not only what is seen on the outside but also what resides within the heart. The wings and birds served as a reminder that boundaries do not truly exist, that we are always in motion, and that we have the freedom to bring all parts of ourselves into the world.
This painting tells a story of inner and outer reflection, of flight and connection between all the parts of ourselves, even those that seem contradictory. The birds symbolize the possibility of breaking boundaries, while the figures represent the unity that emerges when we embrace all that we are.
