"The conscious restlessness" - Original painting by Shirly Maimon

The Story Behind the Painting

This painting is a visual documentation of the transition from a simulated silence to an inner cry.

Every patch of color here is the energy of my most immediate impulses—the ideas running through my head every single second.

But look deeper into the colors, which hold so many shades: they are the delicate, vulnerable, and soft layers that I try to hide, but ultimately reveal as well.

The true tension in this piece is created by the vertical black stripes. They slice through the brightness like bars, like the external noise trying to shrink me into a framework of "quiet" or "comfort."

They are the feedback of fear, returning to whisper, "Be careful." Yet the stormy turquoise arrives and calms them.

This is not a painting of a calm day. It is a self-portrait of everything left unsaid.

A mixture of conflicting emotions, of immense love for life, and of a creative restlessness.

This painting is an invitation to be both, because that is what we are in the end—people who contain everything ♡
