“EXTENDING”- Original painting by the artist Shirly Maimon.

The Story Behind the Painting

One day, after a long walk through the streets of Tel Aviv, I returned to my studio overflowing with inspiration. The city always gives me a sense of constant movement – people, sounds, scents, and most of all, street art. I remember stopping in front of a massive wall covered in colorful graffiti, full of hidden messages, broken letters, bold lines, and a raw energy you could feel from every corner. Something about that moment stayed with me, and I knew I wanted to bring Tel Aviv onto my canvas.

Back in the studio, I began working on a painting I would call Graffiti. I applied the paint quickly and intuitively, just like the artists who work directly on the city's walls. I wanted to capture the rhythm of the streets, the driving force that fuels Tel Aviv. I tried to tap into that feeling of uninhibited creation – without rules or boundaries.

I used layers of bold colors and strong contrasts – each shade telling a different story of the city.

This piece is not only a tribute to street art but also to the spirit of life in Tel Aviv – the people, the energy, the passion to stand out amidst the crowd. It reminds me of the freedom to create in open spaces, among the streets we all share. The freedom to express yourself wildly – just like the city itself.
