"Out of Line" - Original painting by Shirly Maimon

The Story Behind the Painting

When I began working on this piece, I had a strong feeling

There’s something almost addictive about that moment when I choose not to go with what’s expected.
Not because I need to prove anything — but because that’s simply who I am.
I draw a line… and then pause.
Why this way?
What if I take it somewhere else?

And so I do.
One line leads to another, and slowly, a new space begins to open — one that isn’t shaped by what I know, but by what I’m still discovering.
That’s where the magic begins.

When I step outside the lines, something shifts inside me.
The mind expands, the thinking softens, and the hand moves to places I never planned.
It’s not rebellion — it’s a deep knowing that there are still parts of me I haven’t met.
And each time I leave the familiar path, I uncover another layer. A new color. A different rhythm.

That’s where I feel most alive —
not in what I control, but in what I allow to unfold.

This painting is a reminder that when we dare to draw the line differently, to choose the less obvious direction —
we often find something far more true than anything we had in mind.
