When Erika, who lives in Dubai, approached me with a request for a black and white painting, I knew it would be a challenge I wasn’t used to. She was looking for something unique, a piece that would bring strength, movement, and depth into her space in the Dubai Marina, a central and prestigious location.
She asked for all of this using only two colors, black and white. For me, it felt like opening a door to a new and mysterious place within the world of painting.
I usually paint with vibrant, colorful palettes, so limiting myself to just two colors felt restrictive at first. But as I went deeper into the process, I began to feel how black and white actually gave me more room for creative freedom. Every line and every shadow began to tell a story. It became a personal challenge, how to create power and a sense of movement using only two colors.
The final piece that emerged was bold, eye catching, and truly unique, full of flow and intensity.
This painting, which I wasn’t sure how it would look at the beginning, became the most striking element in her space, exactly as she had hoped.
When Erika saw it, she was in shock. Everything she had imagined was there, exactly as she had asked for.
She was incredibly happy with the result, and the painting became a focal point, illuminating her entire home.
This experience wasn’t just a professional success for me. It was also a personal breakthrough, reminding me that even within limitations, it’s possible to create something powerful, moving, and truly inspiring.
