There’s a profound difference between listening from fear and listening from love.
When I listen from fear, I’m caught up in myself.
Guarded, judgmental, tense.
I hear the words — but only through the filters of my own fears.
What does this mean about me? Am I being threatened? Should I protect myself?
And in that space, I’m not truly hearing what the other person is trying to say —
I’m only hearing the stories my fears are telling me.
But listening from love is something entirely different.
It happens when I allow myself to soften the defenses,
and see the person in front of me as they truly are.
It’s a kind of listening that comes from compassion —
from the ability to understand that the other is speaking from their story,
not as a threat to mine.
This painting expresses exactly that.
A space where it’s possible to be without defending.
A space where listening isn’t meant to fix or prove — but simply to understand.
To be with the other, truly.
To let go of the struggle — and open up.
This painting is an invitation.
To release the armor,
to listen not from a need to protect — but from a desire to understand.
To listen from love,
and to truly see the one in front of you.
